Times Higher Education (THE) has released its annual ranking of small universities. The 2024 ranking places Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) once again among the world's top ten universities, securing the ninth position awarded by the British institution.

Small universities were selected from THE's main ranking according to the following criteria: universities must appear in THE's World University Rankings 2024, offer more than four fields of study, and have fewer than 5,000 students. After applying these filters, the universities retained their relative positions, with USI securing its position in the global "top ten".

As a reminder, Times Higher Education releases a ranking specifically for small universities. This is helpful for students interested in the unique experience that these institutions can provide: small class sizes, which allow for better interaction between students and lecturers, and campuses that offer a high quality of life. In this environment, the small size of the university does not hinder the exchange of ideas or the development of one's potential.
