Conscientious about difference: Diversity in research methodologies and practice
Equal Opportunities Service
Date: 26 April 2023 / 17:00 - 18:30
USI Equal Opportunities Service is organising a public lecture on Wednesday, 26 April as part of the Bachelor's programme "Interdisciplinary approach to gender and diversity" in collaboration with the Institute of Communication and Public Policy (ICPP) of the Faculty of Communication, Culture and Society. The event will be held online via Zoom, from 5 to 6:30 pm.
Knowledge is inevitably positioned within power struggles. When we produce knowledge through research, we also place ourselves within these dynamics. In a world increasingly marked by heterogeneity and in which it is no longer acceptable to be unaware of the importance of diversity, we need to think carefully about how our research can be supportive and affirming of difference or can perpetuate exclusion, marginalisation and cancellation.
During the event we will reflect on the research cycle and, using the Critical Diversity Literacy (CDL) framework, how we can make our planning, processes and research outputs more attentive to those who might otherwise be overlooked.
